Champions League, Europa League, Conference League: how promotion and relegation between UEFA's three club competitions changes how a prediction model has to handle each one.

Europa League. The failure mode is mis-pricing the dropped Champions League sides. A side that finished in the lower Champions League places has a deeper squad than the Europa League regulars. The model that treats them as Europa League sides under-prices their talent.

Conference League. The failure mode is variance. The squad-quality gap between a top side and a bottom side in the Conference League is wider than in the other two competitions. The model’s probability bands have to be wider to handle it.

What this means for predictions
